Let your kids take a break from the electronics and have some #fun with these cool science experiments. It’s okay if you weren’t a science prodigy in school. These experiments are quite simple but still will teach your child something new while keeping him/her entertained. Here are some suggestions.
- Lava Lamp Experiment
The glow and movement of the wax in lava lamps make them very fascinating pieces of home decor. Making a homemade version of a lava lamp with your kids can be a fun science experiment. It may seem complicated to replicate but you’d be surprised that it’s quite the opposite, using #basicingredients. Start by filling a flask with mostly vegetable oil then add some water. Next, put in a few drops of food coloring. Finally, drop small pieces of an Alka-Seltzer tablet (one at a time) into the flask and prepare to be amazed.
- Baking Soda + Vinegar Balloon Experiment
Imagine how excited your child would be to watch a balloon inflate almost on its own! This is possible because of gas and chemical reactions. This experiment involves adding some baking soda inside a balloon and then fitting it over the opening of a bottle containing vinegar. After holding up the balloon and having the baking soda fall into the vinegar, the balloon will start to blow up.
- Fake Snow Experiment
Your child can play with “snow” all year round by creating fake snow. This science experiment will be especially fun if your child’s favorite season is winter. There are several ways to go about this #fakesnow experiment, many of which require no more than three simple ingredients that you can find around the house. One way is to mix a cup of cornstarch/corn flour with the same amount of lotion. Keep in mind that you may have to add more or less of an ingredient to achieve the right consistency. Who knows what fun things your child can make with homemade snow? These #scienceexperiments are not only great ways to bond with your child but can be learning opportunities for both of you!
